International Kendo Training Session for Juniors

This Training session will be conducted in both English and Japanese. The goal is to provide an opportunity for participants to experience English and different cultures through the Kendo.

Event Overview

  • Date: Sunday, March 2, 2025
  • Venue: Yokohama Budokan, Martial Arts Hall
  • Participation Fee: 1,000 yen (includes insurance)
    *Fee applies per child
    *Parents and participants joining after 20:00 can attend for free
  • Capacity: 40 participants (elementary and junior high school students)
    *High school students may also join upon request
  • Co-organizer: Yokohama Budokan

Instructors

Pepijn Boomgaard

Studied Kendo and sports at the International Budo University and the University of Tsukuba Graduate School. Currently enrolled in the Graduate School of Waseda University.
Former member of the Netherlands national team. Competed in the World Kendo Championships and the European Kendo Championships. Favorite food: Ramen. 4th Dan.

Hirotaka Sato

After graduating from Awa High School, he entered the University of Tsukuba.
Participated in the All Japan Kendo Championship seven times.
2nd place in the National Police Kendo Championship (Individual).
Team Champion in the All Japan Student Championship, Kanto Student Championship, Inter-High School Championship, National Invitational Championship, and Chiba National Sports Festival, among others.
Favorite food: Pizza. 6th Dan.

Sophie Pierce Melly (Sophie)

Captain of the Ireland Women’s National Kendo Team.
Competed in the European Kendo Championships and the World Kendo Championships.
Individual and Team Champion at the Ireland Kendo Championship.
Currently working as an English teacher at a junior high school in Tokyo.3rd Dan.
